Hon. Alex Mascot Ikwechegh, Member representing Aba North and South Federal Constituency, took his advocacy for Governor Alex Otti’s re-election directly to the heart of Ngwa traditional leadership on Wednesday July 30, 2025. In a strategic move to consolidate grassroots support, Ikwechegh visited two foremost monarchs in Aba: His Imperial Majesty Eze Dr. Isaac Ajonu Ikonne (JP) and HRM Eze Love Nwogu. During the closed-door meetings, he passionately articulated the case for Otti’s second term, highlighting the governor’s transformative impact across Abia State since taking office in 2023.
The visits underscored Ikwechegh’s role as a key bridge-builder in Otti’s political architecture. He detailed the governor’s unprecedented infrastructure revival in Aba, including the reconstruction of the long-abandoned Port-Harcourt Road, Ohanku Road, and Obohia Road—projects now nearing completion and revitalizing commerce in the region. Ikwechegh also emphasized Otti’s resolution of pension and salary arrears inherited from past administrations, the ongoing construction of the Abia International Airport, and the restoration of security in previously volatile areas.
“Governor Otti’s commitment to transparency and rapid development transcends political divides,” Ikwechegh stated after the meetings. “His work in Aba alone—where streets once submerged by floods are now motorable, and businesses are reopening—demonstrates why continuity is essential.” Both monarchs reportedly expressed strong alignment with Ikwechegh’s message, acknowledging Otti’s visible projects and people-oriented policies. Eze Ikonne, a respected voice in Ngwa land, noted the governor’s “respect for traditional institutions” and inclusive governance approach.
The engagements form part of Ikwechegh’s broader mobilization efforts across Abia’s regions. Earlier in the week, he hosted Old Bende traditional rulers who unanimously endorsed Otti’s 2027 bid. Political observers attribute this momentum to the governor’s tangible achievements: restored water supply in Umuahia, upgrades to healthcare facilities like Abia State University Teaching Hospital (ABSUTH), and attracting over $500 million in private investments to the state.
As the 2027 elections approach, Ikwechegh’s direct outreach to community leaders signals a focus on unifying grassroots backing for Otti’s “people-first” agenda. With traditional institutions publicly acknowledging the administration’s impact, the visits reinforce a growing consensus that Otti’s second term is pivotal for sustaining Abia’s renewal.
