Ignore APC's Mischievous Plot, We Didn't Suspend El-Rufai - SDP

The Kaduna State chapter of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) has refuted widespread claims that former Kaduna State Governor, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai, has been suspended or expelled from the party, dismissing the reports as false and politically motivated.

In an official statement released on Monday by Hon. Darius Kurah, the State Publicity Secretary of the SDP, the party described the suspension report as a fabrication designed to mislead the public and destabilize the party.

Kurah specifically discredited a statement attributed to one Araba Rufus Aiyenigba, who was falsely presented as the party’s National Publicity Secretary. “Araba Rufus Aiyenigba is not the National Publicity Secretary of the SDP,” Kurah stated.

“That position is currently held by Ambassador Judith Shua’ibu, and any statement issued by Aiyenigba in that capacity is null, unauthorized, and of no consequence.” Kurah went on to clarify that the party’s constitution outlines clear procedures for disciplining members, none of which were followed in the case of El-Rufai. According to him, El-Rufai has not been queried, summoned before a disciplinary committee, or officially expelled by any legally recognized arm of the party, whether at the ward level or by the National Working Committee (NWC).

The SDP also debunked rumors alleging that El-Rufai was undermining the party by promoting the interests of rival political groups. “These accusations are baseless and unsubstantiated,” the statement said, adding that while El-Rufai has fulfilled all constitutional requirements for membership, he has not held or claimed any official position within the SDP.

Labeling the reports as “cheap propaganda,” Kurah accused unnamed individuals of collaborating with elements loyal to the All Progressives Congress (APC) to cause internal strife. “This misleading publication appears to be a politically motivated attempt to create confusion within our ranks and the general public,” he said. The Kaduna SDP urged its members and the wider public to disregard the false information, which it described as a desperate ploy to stir political controversy ahead of the 2027 general elections.

“No such disciplinary action has been taken against Mallam Nasir El-Rufai, and we urge all well-meaning Nigerians to ignore such fake news,” the statement concluded.
