ABA, Nigeria – In an inspiring act of honesty, commercial tricycle (Keke) driver Mr. Lucky Okoro returned a staggering N4 million forgotten by a female passenger in his vehicle, earning widespread admiration for his integrity, IgbereTV reports .
According to Okoro, the Cameroonian woman boarded his Keke at the Aba Main Park, en route to the Ariaria Market. After dropping her off, he discovered she had left a bag containing the huge sum in his tricycle. Frantically searching for her, Okoro drove back to the park and then to the market, where he found the woman in tears, contemplating suicide due to the loss.
Moved by her distress, he immediately returned the money, consoled her, and even advised her to check into a hotel for safety before continuing her journey the next day.
“I Am Not a Mugu” – Okoro Stands Firm
Despite facing mockery from some fellow Keke drivers, who called him a “mugu” (a fool) for not keeping the money, Okoro expressed no regrets.
“I love what I did. It is true that Keke dey disturb me, but I am happy. I need a new Keke, but not another woman’s money,” he stated.
A devout Jehovah’s Witness, Okoro attributed his actions to his faith, saying, “Jehovah, thank you. I have made your name to be praised.”
Public Reactions
The story has gone viral on social media, with many Nigerians commending Okoro’s rare honesty in a society where such large sums could easily tempt others. Some netizens have called for support to reward his integrity, possibly with a new Keke to ease his work.
This heartwarming act serves as a reminder that honesty still exists, even in the most challenging circumstances.
