Justice E.G. Umokoro of the Bayelsa State High Court was on Saturday abducted by unknown gunmen in Yenagoa, the state capital.
He was reportedly kidnapped at about 7:00 pm in front of a popular eatery located in the Ekeki area along the Chief Melford Okilo Expressway.
The motive for the abduction remains unclear as of press time.
The incident has heightened tension in the state, which has recently witnessed a surge in cult-related violence that has left several people dead.
The abduction of the judge adds to growing concerns over security in the state, amid fears that the escalating violence could undermine law and order.
