A group identifying itself as the Concerned Amaechi Friends has issued a strong rebuttal to a recent report by Daily Trust TV, in which retired General Theophilus Danjuma was quoted as criticizing former Minister of Transportation, Rt. Hon. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, over alleged contradictions between his public statements and personal lifestyle.
In a statement released to the press, the group described the claims attributed to Danjuma as “inaccurate” and inconsistent with Amaechi’s longstanding record of “integrity, courage, and commitment to Nigeria.” The statement highlighted Amaechi’s service as a two-term Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, two-term governor, and Minister of Transportation, emphasizing his “transparency and patriotism.”
Notably, the group revealed that Amaechi had personally reached out to Senator Daisy Danjuma, wife of the retired general, for clarification. According to the statement, Senator Danjuma denied that her husband made such remarks, suggesting that the report may have been a “misrepresentation or taken out of context.”
While expressing continued respect for General Danjuma’s legacy, the group urged public figures to base their commentary on “verifiable facts and fairness,” rather than speculation.
The rebuttal comes amid heightened political tensions in Nigeria, with Amaechi being a prominent figure in the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and a potential contender in future elections.
