Umuahia, Abia State – Former Abia State Governor, Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu, has fired back at his successor, Governor Alex Otti, claiming that the current administration is benefiting from the “focused, noiseless work” done during his tenure, IgbereTV reports.
Ikpeazu’s remarks were conveyed in a statement posted on social media by his former Commissioner for Information, John Okiyi Kalu. The statement criticized Otti’s governance approach, suggesting that the governor is attempting to take credit for achievements rooted in the previous administration.
“Otti Was Part of Abia’s Past Problems” – Ikpeazu
In the strongly worded post, Ikpeazu dismissed Otti’s narrative of being a transformative leader, stating:
“Alex Otti wants you to believe he is the Mungo Park that discovered Abia State in 2023. I will prove he was an integral part of what was wrong in the past but a current beneficiary of focused, noiseless work done by his predecessor.”
The former governor also took a swipe at Otti’s publicity strategy, questioning the need for heavy spending on social media promotion if his governance was truly impactful.
“Will a Governor who is doing well hire & pay billions of naira to SM content creators for promotion? Good work should always speak loudly & clearly in the head of beneficiaries. Not same for ‘MMM’ & Ponzi works meant to provide cover for massive looting.”
The statement has further heightened political tensions in the state, with supporters of both leaders engaging in heated debates online. While Otti’s administration has received massive praise for infrastructure projects and transparency initiatives, Ikpeazu’s camp insists that many ongoing developments were initiated under his watch.
Governor Otti, who defeated Ikpeazu’s PDP in the 2023 elections, has yet to officially respond to the allegations. However, his media aides have previously dismissed such claims, maintaining that his administration is building a “new Abia” from the ground up.
