Bright Chimezie’s Team Should Push for a Collaboration with Davido

By Donseth Beat

At this point, Bright Chimezie’s team should push for a collaboration with Davido, something similar to what Davido did with Angelique Kidjo, and they need to move fast.

If possible, they should even demand a split. Though to be fair, David is generous enough to offer one even without being asked.

The implication of this move is massive: it would relaunch the Zigma crooner to the forefront of today’s music scene.

Such a collaboration would split Davido’s fanbase, largely Gen Z, and push a significant portion toward Baba, effectively positioning him as a bankable brand in both streaming and endorsement circles.

It would open up new vistas of endorsement opportunities for the veteran musician.

The truth is, Gen Z now runs the entertainment and music market, and having them on your side is a serious flex.

Now, someone might say Baba Bright is no small brand, and they’d be right.

In fact, he could easily be classified as a national treasure.

But unfortunately, most of the Gen Z audience who dominate the industry today even some of their mothers weren’t born or they were still toddlers when Baba was shaking the continent with his sound.

A strategic alignment with Davido won’t just reintroduce his brand to these young audiences and the global market; it’ll push them to dig into his old catalog, boosting streams, growing revenue, and expanding his fan base exponentially.

As I mentioned earlier, for Davido, this is a PR move.

Anyone who understands music dynamics knows his song “With You” draws more elements from Alpha Blondy and other artistes than from Bright Chimezie’s Englishin. In fact, musically, they’re two completely different progressions.

Yes, Bright may have influenced or inspired David and his music, but the specific music referenced doesn’t align directly with the new single.

Still, it’s a smart PR strategy, and I’m glad to see it, it’s a win for both brands.

But truth be told, it favours Baba Bright even more, offering him a rare opportunity for reinvention and relaunch.

If properly handled, this could set him up for a wealthier retirement.

Some might wonder, “Why didn’t David just go for Alpha Blondy then?” The answer is simple: Alpha Blondy wouldn’t hit the emotional chord or stir the cultural buzz needed to drive conversation around the album.

Bright Chimezie, however, does exactly that, involving him gets people talking. That buzz alone will keep Davido’s name and his 5 album in heavy rotation, generating clout and streams.

That said, Bright’s team must not get carried away by the euphoria of the moment.

They need to go to work. Baba should start building a fresh catalog immediately, preparing to release new songs and videos back-to-back if the collaboration materializes.

This move will plug him directly into the streaming economy, where he owns 100% of the rights to his new works.

When it comes to clout and emotional marketing, Davido is in a league of his own. But the beautiful thing is, whenever he chases clout, someone’s life gets changed forever.
