Maria Oligbi-Edeko Resigns As Edo Deputy Speaker, Citing PDP's Minority Status

The Deputy Speaker of the Edo State House of Assembly, Mrs. Maria Oligbi-Edeko (PDP – Esan North East II), has stepped down from her position, citing the minority status of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the Assembly as the reason for her voluntary resignation.

Oligbi-Edeko, who was elected Deputy Speaker of the 8th Assembly on June 16, 2023, formally announced her resignation, expressing a desire to promote justice, fairness, and equity among all constituencies in the state.

In her farewell address, she expressed gratitude to PDP leaders and members for the opportunity to serve and represent her constituents. Her departure was met with praise from fellow lawmakers, who commended her dedication to public service, integrity, and impactful leadership.

Colleagues described her as a principled and committed leader whose tenure made a meaningful difference in the legislative process.
