The Honourable Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, Dr. Anieti Udofia, has emphasized the critical importance of the culture and tourism sector as the largest governmental agency in Akwa Ibom State. He highlighted its vital role in interpreting and executing the ARISE Agenda policies of Governor Umo Eno’s administration. Dr. Udofia made these comments during a courtesy visit from a delegation of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR), Uyo chapter, where discussions centered on the upcoming 2025 National Public Relations Conference, titled NPRW UYO 2025, scheduled for May 19 to 24, 2025.

Expressing enthusiasm about potential collaboration, Dr. Udofia acknowledged the crucial role of public relations in shaping the image of government and institutional entities. He praised the state chapter of NIPR for their efforts in increasing Akwa Ibom’s visibility and noted that partnering with the ministry would further elevate the state’s rich cultural heritage on both national and international stages.

“The Culture and Tourism sector is not just a component of our government; it is the heartbeat of our identity, a driver of economic growth, and a platform to showcase Akwa Ibom’s vibrant heritage,” Dr. Udofia stated. “Collaborating with NIPR will enable us to effectively communicate the successes of our ARISE Agenda and present a positive image of our state to the world.”

The NIPR delegation, led by Mr. Manasseh Umoette, the chapter Chairman, along with other prominent members, shared their vision for NPRW UYO 2025. The conference aims to gather leading public relations professionals from across Nigeria to explore innovative strategies, enhance industry standards, and foster meaningful connections.

Dr. Udofia reaffirmed the ministry’s commitment to partnering with NIPR in showcasing Akwa Ibom’s cultural diversity and tourism potential. “Together, we can craft compelling narratives that highlight the beauty and richness of our culture, boost tourism, and attract investment to our state,” he said.

The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Mrs. Grace Akpan, also expressed gratitude to NIPR for recognizing the importance of collaborating with the ministry to promote its activities and advance the ARISE Agenda policies globally.

Earlier, Mr. Manasseh Umoette formally briefed the Honourable Commissioner about the upcoming conference. He stated, “We are here to inform you about the 2025 National Public Relations Week, a flagship program of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations. Traditionally held biennially, last year’s event was dedicated to a full week of public relations activities.” He also pledged that the conference would showcase Akwa Ibom’s rich cultural heritage and tourism attractions.

Mr. Umoette further emphasized the importance of developing a native and inclusive tourism sub-sector and praised the ministry for organizing first-ever World Heritage Day, describing it as a significant platform to promote Akwa Ibom to the world.

He concluded by appealing for a strong partnership between NIPR and the Ministry to ensure the success of the event, including “A Taste of Akwa Ibom,” scheduled for May 21, 2025, at Watbridge Hotels and Suites in Uyo, starting at 7 pm.
