The Senior Pastor of Power World Ministries International, Rev. Dr. Uche Ume, has filed a N5 billion lawsuit against Mr. Kelvin Armstrong Amobi, host of the KAAtruths Podcast, over alleged defamatory content disseminated via multiple social media platforms.
The lawsuit, filed at the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, also includes Mr. Wisdom Ogo Uzochukwu, who allegedly made unverified and damaging statements during an appearance on Amobi’s podcast.
The suit, instituted by Barr. Maxwell Okpara of Chibunnam Chambers, counsel to Rev. Uche Ume, contends that the defamatory statements published on Facebook, TikTok, Instagram, and YouTube were malicious and intended to injure the reputation of the Claimants.
The writ served to the defendants commands them to enter an appearance within twenty-one (21) days of service. It warns that failure to do so may result in judgment being entered in their absence.
Key reliefs sought by the Claimants include:
• A Declaration that the statements made are false, malicious, unjustified, injurious, unwarranted, instigating, and calculated to bring the Claimants into public odium, ridicule, and disdain.
• An Award of N5,000,000,000.00 (Five Billion Naira) as general damages for the alleged defamation of the Claimants’ hard-earned reputation and goodwill.
• An Additional N50,000,000.00 (Fifty Million Naira) as exemplary damages for the purported false and injurious publication.
• A Mandatory Order compelling the defendants to publish a retraction in two national newspapers and on the same online platforms where the original content was posted, ensuring the same audience is reached, within 48 hours of the court’s judgment.
• A Perpetual Injunction restraining the Defendants and their agents from further publication of the said or any similar defamatory statements.
It will be recalled that Mr. Kelvin Armstrong Amobi had circulated a video wherein he referred to Rev. Uche Ume as a “criminal” and “fraudster”, and accused him of orchestrating fake and arranged miracles.
With this legal action, Rev. Uche Ume is taking a firm stand to protect his name and ministry. It now rests with Mr. Kelvin Armstrong to substantiate his claims in court.
