No fewer than 10 people have been reported dead following an attack by unknown assailants in Ruwi village, Bokkos Local Government Area of Plateau State.
The attack occurred during a wake-keep ceremony on Thursday night.
According to a source, who spoke to newsmen on condition of anonymity, ten bodies have been deposited at a hospital in Bokkos following the tragic incident.
Confirming the attack, the Plateau State Police Command stated that armed assailants stormed the village around 9:20 pm, shooting sporadically, resulting in multiple casualties. However, the police did not confirm an exact number of victims.
The State Commissioner of Police, Emmanuel Adesina, in a statement through the Police Public Relations Officer, Alfred Alabo, condemned the attack and expressed condolences to the bereaved families.
He further revealed that upon receiving the distress call, security operatives were immediately deployed to the scene, with additional manpower and operational assets dispatched to Bokkos and surrounding areas.
To prevent further violence, the Area Commander of Pankshin has been directed to relocate to Bokkos to oversee security operations until normalcy is fully restored.
