Two RSIEC Commissioners Resign In Rivers State

Amdist the ongoing political impasse in Rivers state and following the invitation by the state house of assembly to the RSIEC chairman and his commissioners, two of the commissioners has resigned their position.

Recall that the commission had rushed to announce a date for another round of council elections after the supreme court judgement annulled the one it conducted last October due to violation of electoral laws.

Their resignation, is coming few hours the Rivers State House of Assembly had summoned the Chairman of the State Independent Electoral Commission, Justice Adolphus Enebeli (retd), to appear before it within 48 hours over the conduct of the 2024 local government election.

The House, during plenary presided over by its Speaker, Martin Amaewhule, on Wednesday, also threatened to issue a warrant for the arrest of the RSIEC Chairman if he fails to appear before the House at the expiration of the ultimatum.

The House also resolved to write Governor Siminalayi Fubara to forward the names of all his commissioners that were not screened by the Amaewhule-led Assembly.
