The ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has secured a landslide victory in the Katsina State local government elections, winning all 34 chairmanship positions and all 361 councillorship seats in the poll conducted on Saturday, February 15, 2025.
The Chairman of the Katsina State Independent Electoral Commission (KTSIEC), Lawal Alhassan, announced the results on Sunday, February 16, at the commission’s headquarters.
He confirmed that the APC dominated the election, securing all positions by a wide margin.
“In all 34 local government areas, the APC won both the chairmanship and councillorship seats with overwhelming support from voters,” Alhassan stated.
He further disclosed that five political parties participated in the elections, including Accord (A), African Action Congress (AAC), African Democratic Congress (ADC), All Progressives Congress (APC), and Boot Party (BP).
Alhassan noted that some local government areas were unable to submit their results on time, leading to a slight delay in the final announcement.
“As of midnight on election day, only 24 out of the 34 local government areas had submitted their results,” he explained. “The remaining 10 LGAs, including Batsari, Charanchi, Dandume, Daura, Funtua, Kankia, Katsina, Mani, Dutsinma, and Sabuwa, submitted their results the following day.”
Meanwhile, former President Muhammadu Buhari participated in the election. He was seen on Saturday exercising his civic duty by casting his vote in his hometown, Daura. Buhari led Nigeria between 2015 and 2023 when he handed over to President Bola Tinubu.
