A devastating explosion from a fuel tanker occurred early this morning near Dikko Junction along Minna Road in Gurara Local Government Area in Niger State resulting in multiple fatalities and severe injuries.
Eyewitnesses revealed that members of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) were among those present at the scene. Tragically, the explosion happened while individuals were attempting to siphon fuel from the overturned tanker into containers.
Reports indicate that a generator, used in the process of transferring the fuel, sparked the explosion, leading to the tragic incident.
Several lives were lost, including a pregnant woman and children, according to an eyewitness who said, “I saw the bodies of the victims, but I cannot confirm the exact number of fatalities.”
Another eye witness who is in the vehicle on his way to Minna,said over 30 people lost their lives as a result of the petrol tanker explosion.
Emergency responders are actively managing the situation, with those injured already rushed to nearby hospitals for urgent medical attention.
