The Lagos State Building Control Agency (LASBCA) today on its routine Monitoring and on the Spot Assessment of buildings under remodelling and renovation at Alaba International Market, in Ojo Local Government Area of the State charged all the building Owners/Developers to comply with the State Building Codes and Regulations or get sanctioned.

LASBCA, General Manager, Arc. Gbolahan Oki stated that most buildings under renovation and remodeling in the area were dilapidated and their Owners/Developers had no requisite documents such as building Plan Approval/renovation Permit and letter of authorization to Commence Construction from LASBCA nor evidence of Non Destructive Test (NDT) conducted by Lagos State Material Testing Laboratory (LSMTL) to ascertain the buildings’ Structural stability.

Oki urged them to key into the ongoing Lagos State Amnesty Programme ending on 31st December, 2024 to perfect all their building documents as the State Government will not take easy with and owners/ developers of buildings without necessary titled documents.

“Lagos State Government frowns at buildings without approval and it is compulsory that any construction, renovation, rehabilitation going-on in the State must have valid building Plan approval”, he stated.

The General Manager also requested for a Comprehensive List of all the buildings in the Market that are currently under construction from Alaba Amalgamated Association in order to know those that comply with the State’s Building Regulations and also, for thorough monitoring, supervision, stage inspection and certification of the building process.
