The Abia State government has intensified its efforts to tackle pension fraud, arresting several civil servants implicated in the scam. Plans are underway to arraign them in court soon, Igbere TV reports.
Governor Alex Otti revealed during his monthly media chat at Government House Umuahia on Thursday evening that some of the suspects are based abroad and will be repatriated to face prosecution.
Last week, Mr. Success Nwabueze, along with other civil servants, was arrested by the DSS over an alleged pension fraud scheme in the state.
Speaking on the issue, Governor Otti emphasized his administration’s zero tolerance for corruption, stating, “My question is somebody stole and I arrested him and you went to the press to say I shouldn’t arrest a thief, that means you are a thief.
“They are about 10 or 11. From the report I got, some of them are outside the country. We are going to repatriate them to answer for their sins,” he added.
