Top figures in Nigeria’s security architecture are participating in the 92nd INTERPOL General Assembly in Glasgow, United Kingdom, which began on November 4 and will conclude on November 7, 2024.
The delegation, led by the Minister of Police Affairs, Senator Dr. Ibrahim Gaidam, includes the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun; Vice President of INTERPOL, AIG Umar Baba (Rtd.); INTERPOL NCB Abuja CP Olu Adegbite; and INTERPOL Systems Consultant, Sir Chikwe Udensi. They joined police chiefs and security leaders from 196 member countries for the high-profile event.
The assembly has provided a platform for Nigeria’s delegation to engage in bilateral discussions with Europol members and representatives from other nations. These talks have focused on strengthening global partnerships, enhancing data processing, and addressing challenges related to general policing, governance, and organized transnational crimes.
The Inspector General of Police emphasized Nigeria’s commitment to leveraging the outcomes of the assembly to enhance the capacity of the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) and the West African Police Chiefs Committee (WAPCCO), where Nigeria holds a leading role. These efforts aim to curb organized crime within the country and across the West African subregion.
The IGP reaffirmed the NPF’s dedication to collaborating with international policing institutions through its INTERPOL unit, ensuring joint investigations into cross-border crimes and reducing their impact within Nigeria.
