Benin residents seek Obaseki’s intervention over flood, as landlords abandon houses

Residents of Express Avenue, Benin City ravaged by flood have called on the Edo State Government to come to their aid.

The residents in an appeal to Governor Godwin Obaseki noted that the flood has made the community uninhabitable while about ten landlords have abandoned their properties.

A letter by the leadership of the community, addressed to the State Governor, Obaseki noted that flood has constituted health risks and economic instability to those still residing in the area.

The letter was signed by Mr Courage Asia, chairman and Victor Ofure Osehobo, the Public Relations Officer of the association.

They, however, appealed for the immediate intervention of the state government to address the severe erosion and flooding negatively impacting their area.

According to the letter, erosion and frequent flooding have devastated Express Avenue, particularly during this rainy season, with accumulated floodwaters severely damaging homes, roads, and infrastructure
