Nigerian Visionary Educator, Philanthropist, Dr. Umontuen : named recipient of Who'sWho Africa Award

 

Dr. Godwin Umontuen, an influential educator and entrepreneur from Akwa Ibom, has been named a recipient of the prestigious Who’s Who Africa Award. This annual honor, presented by Time Africa Magazine and based in Washington, D.C., celebrates individuals who have made significant contributions to their communities and fields.

Born in 1971 to Elder Udoaka Mathew Umontuen and Deaconess Alice Udoaka Umontuen, Dr. Umontuen’s path to success was marked by determination and resilience. His educational journey began at Lutheran Primary School and continued through Government Secondary School Afaha Eket and Science School Ndon Eyo, where he excelled academically. He later earned a National Diploma in Mathematics and Statistics from the Federal Polytechnic Nasarawa State, followed by a Higher National Diploma from the Institute of Management and Technology in Enugu.

 

Dr. Umontuen’s quest for knowledge culminated in a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in Education Management and Planning from Imo State University, and a Doctoral Fellowship in Entrepreneurship and Technical Education from the University College of Christian Mission in the United States. His professional accolades include fellowships from the Chartered Institute of Management Consultants Nigeria and Rotary International.

 

As a trailblazer in nursing education, Dr. Umontuen founded Maurid Polytechnic in 2009, where he served as the inaugural Rector until 2021. He also established the College of Nursing Sciences Obohia Ndoki and Maurid College of Nursing Sciences in Mbiaso, both accredited by the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria. His institutions are renowned for setting new standards in nursing education and providing programs that meet international benchmarks.

 

Dr. Umontuen’s contributions extend beyond education; his initiatives have generated over 1,000 direct jobs and positively impacted the local economy, improving the living standards of countless families. His commitment to service and community empowerment aligns perfectly with the values honored by the Who’s Who Africa Award.

 

A devoted Christian and Elder at the Living Faith Church Worldwide, Dr. Umontuen is married to his childhood friend, Mrs. Confidence Umontuen, and together they have two biological children, Stella and David, along with several foster children.

 

As Dr. Umontuen prepares to accept the Who’s Who Africa Award, his remarkable journey serves as a powerful reminder of the impact that education and community service can have in shaping a brighter future. His story is an inspiration to many, and his legacy will undoubtedly resonate for generations to come.
