The Yobe state government on Friday, September 6, said that 20 people have died following flooding which ravaged Bade Local Government Area of the state.
The chairman of LGA, Babagana Ibrahim, said the deceased were mostly trapped in the debris of the collapsed mud houses in the communities of the LGA.
According to Ibrahim, 20,000 people were also displaced by the flood while over 10,000 houses and farmlands across LGA.
Ibrahim said that the flood destroyed more than 10,000 houses and farmlands across 200 communities.
The worst communities hit by the flood include Misilli, Lawan Musa, Dagona, Dala, Katuzu and Sabongarin Gashua.
He added that those displaced by the flood were taking shelter in three different camps in Gashua – Goodluck, Zango 2 and Babuje camps.
Stating that they have been feeding and taking care of the displaced with their low resources, Ibrahim urged the Nigerian government to come to the rescue of the affected residents.
Ibrahim also noted that the former Senate President, Ahmed Lawal had supported the LGA with N10 million.
