NFF technical director Augustine Eguavoen has been handed a new role in the Super Eagles as he will now work a lot closer with Janne Andersson and his assistants.
In the absence of Finidi George, who quit his post in June, Eguavoen is the most connected and knowledgeable of the coaches about the present Super Eagles.
This is role the former Super Eagles skipper ought to have played with previous Super Eagles coaches like Gernot Rohr and Jose Peseiro, but he could not because the NFF did not compel those foreign coaches to work hand-in-hand with him.
“Eguavoen will be the main technical link between the new Super Eagles coach (Andersson) and the team,” an inside source informed newsmen.
“He will provide all the necessary information and details on the players to help the new coach and hopefully this will continue for a long time.”
Speculations were rife that in the absence of a coach, former Super Eagles coach Eguavoen will again be appointed caretaker coach for at least next month’s 2025 AFCON qualifiers against Benin and Rwanda.
