RollerCoaster : Chronicles Of Political Comebacks In Abia Politics

-By Davidson Chijioke Ogbonnaya (Mighty CJ).

The phenomenon and concept of politics and power acquisition have been widely conceived to be as old as the genesis of human existence.

Politics, for Karl Marx, is simply about class struggle. For Prof Okwudiba Nnoli, it is apparently, the seizure, consolidation and use of state power.

However, the philosophy of the former Chinese Leader, “Mao-Tse-Tung” , wherein, he asserted that “Who Ever Wants To Stage A Political Comeback, Seize And Retain Power, Must Have A Strong Army”,  Is a locus classicus for the above subject matter.

Interestingly, the above political assertion of the former Chinese Leader, Mao-Tse-Tung is indeed, a reflection and quintessence of the chronicles of heroic c*m successful political comebacks within the political landscape of Abia. Within the context of modern democracy,
“A Strong Army” as captured in the assertion of the former Chinese Leader, represents “Determined Masses”

With the inception of the fourth republic and return of democracy in 1999, the politics of hate, vilification, victimization, betrayal and bitterness took centre stage in Abia. The scramble and unconscionable desperation for power, relegated healthy politicking and the use of propaganda and Pull-Him-Down retrogressive style of politicking, gathered momentum.

Apart from it’s attendant consequences, with respect to Socio-Political And Economic setbacks, from May 29, 2007, Some Notable Political Figures in Abia, got betrayed, vilified, accused and almost politically ostracized. However, their heroic comebacks are phenomena, worth recalling.

The trajectory of successful return to power in Abia cannot be explained without unraveling the trio of Sen. Dr. Orji Uzor Kalu, Sen Enyinnaya Abaribe And Hon Mascot Alex Ikwechegh (Onye Ocha Na Aba).

Senator Enyinnaya Harcourt Abaribe’s return to power was accompanied by his victory in the 2007 general election, wherein, he was elected to the Senate as the senator representing Abia South Senatorial District on the platform of the People’s Democratic Party.(PDP), an election that was challenged by Chief Eric Acho Nwakanma, the PPA candidate at the time. The Made-In-Aba senator and one of the National Assembly landlords, is currently serving his fifth term as the senator representing Abia South Senatorial District, having defeated Abia South PDP’s senatorial candidate/former Abia Governor Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu and Labour party’s Chinedu Onyeizu, in the 2023 general election.

Another remarkable moment of a gracious and meritorious return to power was followed by Senator Dr. Orji Uzor Kalu’s landslide victory in the 2019 general election. Despite the unimaginable level of accusations, vilifications and defamations launched by Theodore Orji, during his time as Governor, against The former Abia Governor And 2007 presidential candidate of the PPA, Dr. Orji Kalu, showed courage and political resilience. Therefore his victory in 2019 and reelection in the 2023 general election are clear instances of political bravery.

Similarly, the heroic return of the lion-hearted member representing Aba North And South Federal Constituency, Hon. Mascot Alex Ikwechegh.(Onye Ocha Na Aba), to Political limelight, as well as his victory and protection of the mandate of the good people of Aba North And South, amidst the labour party wave in the 2023 general election, having faced unpardonable demonization, clearly depicts a lion heart determined to make a bold statement and by extension, rekindle the glory of Aba North And South Federal Constituency.

Therefore, successful political comebacks aren’t for the feebleminded, it is reserved exclusively for men with lion hearts and it takes a man with a lion heart to stage a successful political comeback.
