The Minister of Works Sen David Umahi has said that none of Landmark’s properties was touched during the demolition of structures along the coastal line.
Umahi in a chat with journalists in Abakaliki added that the two properties of Landmark were saved.
“I have asked Landmark to publish his title documents. Till today, he has not published it,” Umahi said.
“In fact, if I do one hundred meter corridor, the two buildings of Landmark would have gone. We did 30 30-meter corridor to save his property and he is not grateful because he is using it for politics.
“None of Landmark property was involved in the demolition and no permanent structure along that road. His property is in one plus 800.
“I saved his two properties, not because he is Landmark, but I am a developer because whatever you sow is what you will reap.”
The Federal Government has announced the demolition of properties within the first 3km of the Lagos-Calabar coastal highway within Lagos State that commenced on Saturday, April 27, 2024.
Umahi disclosed that 750 houses that are on the path of the Lagos-Calabal Coast Highway have been marked for demolition.
The former Ebonyi State governor added that the government diverted the area where those cables passed adding that we would not even want to place the road by the side of the cable because it would generate heat and noise which will affect the quality of the cable.
Umahi pleaded with people especially those from the Southeast to go into investigation before assuming anything.
“I plead with our people, especially people of the southeast. Let us go into investigative journalism. You know at my status in the society, who is Landmark? Who is Landmark,” Umahi said.
“What investment does he has there that all these noise is being made. Go to the Total Estate and find out. There are two Obas within that zone. Let me start from chenet zero.”
Umahi said the demolition affected bigger properties within the area, stating that some were owned by persons from other tribes.
He alleged that the owner of Landmark was politicising the issues.
“At chenet zero to chenet one plus 200 plus one point three kilometres nothing was destroyed. You will get to one point 500, you will see the house of Bolaji. Magnificent house, white house. It is bigger than one of Landmark’s properties. I did everything to save it, I couldn’t save it. He is a Yoruba person,” Umahi said.
