Peter Obi Faults Huge Budgetary Allocations For VP Residence, NASS Complex

In a recent statement, Peter Obi expressed his concern over the significant budgetary allocations for the construction of a new residence for the Vice President and the renovation of the National Assembly Complex.

He highlighted the allocation of N15 billion for the Vice President’s new residence and N30 billion for the renovation of the National Assembly Complex.

Obi underscored the gravity of the homelessness crisis in Nigeria, noting that the country has the highest number of homeless people in the world, with 25 million individuals lacking proper shelter. This figure surpasses the combined homeless populations of India and China, whose combined populations are over twelve times that of Nigeria. Additionally, Nigeria’s homeless population is more than two and a half times that of Bangladesh and the Philippines combined.

He suggested that Nigeria could take inspiration from Egypt, which, despite having less than 50% of Nigeria’s homeless population, has embarked on an ambitious project to build 1.4 million low-cost housing units over nine years and continues to make strides in this area.

Peter Obi’s remarks call for a reevaluation of budget priorities, urging the government to focus on addressing the urgent issue of homelessness in the country.
