Fubara Did Not Vote Tinubu In 2023 Election - Rivers APC Chairman, Okocha

The All Progressives Congress, APC, Rivers State chapter has alleged that Governor Siminalayi Fubara did not vote for President Bola Tinubu in the 2023 Presidential Election.

The Chairman of the APC Caretaker Committee in the state, Chief Tony Okocha made the allegation in a statement he signed on Sunday.

Okocha said, “Siminalayi Fubara did not vote for Tinubu in the 2023 Presidential Election.

“He can’t be more Catholic than the Pope now because he seeks succour from Mr President who he and his ilk are demonizing and disrespecting. It fails.

“His inordinately desperate attempts to curry political capital by surreptitiously declaring support for Mr President for 2027, as defense and fall back, are in his style of subterfuges.”

Making reference to the election result from in the governor’s polling unit, Okocha said, “Check Ward 5, unit 8, Opobo/Nkoro LGA, Rivers State, 2023 Presidential Election result.”

Since October 30, 2023, Rivers State has been embroiled in a political crisis. The crisis became public knowledge following an explosion that shook the chamber of the State Assembly complex on the night of October 29, 2023.

Following the fire incident, the state lawmakers initiated an impeachment process against the governor and suspended four lawmakers.

This incident has left the state Assembly deeply divided, with 27 lawmakers aligning with the former governor and Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, while three remained loyal to Governor Fubara (after the resignation of one, Edison Ehie, who now serves as the Chief-of-Staff to the Rivers State Government House).

In December 2023, President Bola Tinubu intervened in the crisis, leading to the formulation of an eight-point resolution signed by Fubara and Wike aimed at resolving the issues.

However, this peace pact has failed to quell the unrest in the state.

The political crisis stems from the discord between the governor and the FCT minister, although the exact reasons for this discord remain the subject of intense speculation.
