The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has disclosed the arrest of a father and son duo for suspected impersonation during the 2024 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME), amid a staggering 1.94 million candidates sitting for the exams nationwide.
JAMB Registrar, Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, revealed the arrest while overseeing the exams at Kaduna State University CBT Centre, cautioning against cheating as advancements in technology aid detection.
Oloyede lamented, “We have a case of a father impersonating his son, writing an examination for the son and I wonder, are you not destroying your son’s future? Of course, two of them are now in custody.”
Despite the smooth conduct of the exams, Oloyede urged parents to refrain from interfering, highlighting incidents where candidates missed exams due to logistical challenges orchestrated by schools seeking financial gains.
“JAMB cannot spend tens of millions of the nation’s resources to reorganize a session for a few candidates who missed the exams due to their personal recklessness,” he added.
