Onu’s death huge loss, he was a true democrat – Nyerere Anyim condoles family

The Representative of the southeast at the National Pension Commission, PENCOM, Dr Nyerere Chinenye Anyim, has expressed sadness over the death of the former Minister of Science and Technology, Ogbonnaya Onu.

DAILY POST gathered that Onu, who was also the first civilian Governor of Abia State, died in Abuja on Thursday at the age of 72.

In a statement made available to journalists on Saturday, Dr Anyim described the death of Onu as a huge loss to the southeast and Nigeria, saying his death left a big vacuum in the nation’s political space.

He said the ex-governor will be remembered for his developmental politics shrouded in integrity, humility and uprightness.

While recalling the deceased’s era as executive Governor of Abia State which was characterized by peaceful co-existence, the former Abia APC gubernatorial candidate described Dr Onu as an authentic democrat and statesman who believed in true democratic governance built on justice, fairness, equity and inclusiveness.

“Dr Ogbonnaya Onu left legacies of patriotism and will also be remembered for his immense contributions to the development of the present democracy in Nigeria,” he stated.

Anyim also condoled the immediate family, associates, the government and people of Ebonyi State on the unexpected demise of the astute academic and former Minister of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

He prayed the almighty God to grant the entire Onu family the fortitude to bear the huge loss and for the repose of his soul
