Super Eagles vice captain William Troost-Ekong is set to miss the rest of the season after rupturing his biceps femoris in his right leg.
According to Italian transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Troost-Ekong will undergo a minor surgery in Finland on Tuesday, 27 February, 2024.
Troost-Ekong sustained the injury in the Super Eagles second group game against Côte d’Ivoire at the AFCON 2023.
Despite sustaining the injury, Troost-Ekong soldiered on as he led the Eagles to the final where they lost 2-1 to the Ivory Coast.
He scored in the final which was his third goal in the tournament.
Following his impressive performance, Troost-Ekong was named Player of the Tournament.
Also, he was named in the CAF Team of the Tournament alongside Ademola Lookman and Ola Aina.
The injury setback will see Troost-Ekong miss next month’s friendly with Argentina in Los Angeles, USA.
He could also miss the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers which will begin in June.
