Former presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Mr. Peter Obi joined Abia State governor, Dr. Alex Otti in Aba today for the commissioning of the Geometric Power Plant and several roads in the city.
Obi’s presence was announced by Governor Otti on X, who shared pictures of their meeting and expressed his excitement about sharing the occasion.
“Earlier this morning, we had the presence of His Excellency, Mr. Peter Obi who came to share in our joy as we are set to commission the Geometric Power Plant in Osisioma and several roads in Aba”, the Governor tweeted.
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is also expected to attend the commissioning of the Integrated Geometric Power Plant located in Osisioma, Aba. The plant is designed to provide uninterrupted power supply to the commercial city and its surrounding areas upon completion.
With a projected capacity of 141 megawatts, the Geometric plant is currently undergoing testing with gas supplied from the Owazza supply plant.
In a press release, the Abia State Commissioner for Information and Culture, Prince Okey Kanu, announced the commissioning of three roads alongside the power plant: Omoba Road, Jubilee Road, and Queens Street, all located within Aba. These roads reportedly mark the first commissioned by President Tinubu from projects undertaken by the current set of governors in Nigeria.
According to the release, the event also signifies the ninth road commissioned in Aba since Governor Otti assumed office eight months ago.
The statement reads in-part: “While the government and people of Abia State welcome Mr. President and his entourage to Abia State, particularly, the Enyimba city; the hub of commerce and entrepreneurship in Nigeria, nay Africa, we enjoin citizens and Aba residents to troop out en- masse to witness the epoch making events.”
