Lawyer petitions CP over communal clashes between Niger communities

The Niger State Commissioner of Police, CP Ebenezer Shawulu Danmaman, has been called upon to investigate the constant violent clashes and destruction of farmlands in Washi community of Lavun Local Government Area of the state.

Residents of Washi community made the call in a petition by a Minna based legal practitioner, Ibrahim Angulu, forwarded to Damanman, and made available to journalists on Saturday.

Angulu lamented the destruction of valuable properties, farmland and fish ponds belonging to residents of Washi by people of Kashikoko community, also of Lavun LGA.

The lawyer explained that the two communities have severally engaged dispute over farmland, leading to breakdown of law.

The petition noted that the people of Kashikoko have on several occasions, attacked Washi residents, destroying their properties.

Parts of the petition read: “They (Kashikoko people) also armed themselves with machetes, cutlasses, dane guns, sticks and carted away over eighty (80) bags of harvested paddy rice together with two pumping machines, five bags of fertilizer, four inches pumping machines and valuable items worth N10 million.

“The attack claimed the life of Adam Zabokun and six suspects were arrested and taken to State Criminal Investigation Department of the Niger State Police Command.

“Three of the arrested suspects were later released while three others were charged to court and many others are still on the run.”

Consequently, Angulu urged the Niger CP and other security agencies in the state to safeguard the residents of Washi from incessant attacks by the people of Kashikoko community
