Sanwo-Olu To Visit China's Rail Infrastructure, Attract Trade And Investments

In pursuit of its THEME Plus transformation agenda aimed at establishing a sustainable multimodal transportation system across the state, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos embarked on a significant tour to Beijing, the capital of China.

This tour encompasses visits to the country’s capital and other key civil construction hubs, aligning with the Governor’s commitment to enhancing transportation infrastructure.

As detailed in a statement signed by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr Gboyega Akosile, the trip holds a dual focus. Firstly, it is directed towards advancing deals related to the Train Mass Transit System – specifically the Blue Line and Red Line projects. Secondly, it involves engaging in crucial bilateral trade discussions to foster collaboration and mutual benefits.

During his stay in China, Governor Sanwo-Olu will pay a visit to the headquarters of the China Civil Engineering Construction Company (CCECC). This visit is instrumental in facilitating trade and investment discussions with the top officials of the company.

Notably, CCECC is slated to undertake the construction of the groundbreaking 37-kilometer Lagos 4th Mainland Bridge, with construction set to commence in the first quarter of the current year.

In addition to inspecting the CCECC headquarters, the Governor will scrutinize various ongoing projects in and around Beijing. This hands-on approach emphasizes the commitment to ensuring the quality and progress of infrastructure initiatives.

Furthermore, the Governor is scheduled to assess the Signalling System (CBTC, etc.) and Metro projects executed by CCECC in China’s capital. This thorough examination underscores the importance of leveraging global expertise for the benefit of Lagos’ transportation system.

Following his time in Beijing, Governor Sanwo-Olu will proceed to visit the China Railway Rolling Stock Corporation headquarters and CRRC Lvshun base in Dalian. This leg of the tour includes a high-level official meeting with the Head of China Railway Rolling Stock Corporation, CRRC Dalian, reinforcing the collaborative efforts between Lagos and prominent entities in advancing transportation infrastructure.

According to the statement: “There would also be Technical Discussions on the DMUs for Red Line and EMUs for Blue Line between LAMATA, CCECC and CRRC Dalian.

Governor Sanwo-Olu is accompanied on the journey by top functionaries of his government, including Hon. Commissioner for Transportation, Mr Seun Osiyemi, Managing Director of the Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority, LAMATA, Mrs Abimbola Akinajo, Director, Rail Transport, Mr Olasunkanmi Okusaga, and some members of States House of Assembly will be back in the country after one week.
