Make Rich Nigerians Explain Source Of Wealth Or Forfeit It To Government – Ndume

The Chief Whip of the Nigerian Senate, Mohammed Ndume, is urging President Bola Tinubu to enact an Executive Order on Unexplained Wealth, granting anti-graft agencies the authority to investigate individuals with questionable wealth.

Representing Borno South Senatorial district in the National Assembly’s Upper legislative chamber, Ndume emphasizes that for President Tinubu to effectively combat corruption, prompt action on signing the Executive Order is imperative.

During a conversation with journalists in Abuja, Ndume underscores the need for wealthy Nigerians to account for their sources of income, proposing forfeiture to the government if explanations are unsatisfactory.

In addition to commending President Tinubu for directing all crude oil sale revenues to a Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) account, Ndume asserts that the implementation of the executive order would significantly address the issue of corruption.

“The next thing now, if President Tinubu wants to fight corruption, would be to sign an Executive Order on Unexplained Wealth in this country,” he said.

Ndume who said that he should also be questioned on how he made his wealth, warned that the issue should not be trivialised.

“Let all these people explain where they got their money, including myself. People should stop talking about trivialities or personal issues; they should talk about national issues,” he said.
