The arrival of the LNG-powered container vessel, CMA CGM SCANDOLA, marked a significant moment for Lagos State as Governor Jide Sanwo-Olu and various stakeholders witnessed its berthing at the state-of-the-art Lagos Lekki Deep Sea Port, renowned as Nigeria’s most modern and deepest seaport.
Measuring an impressive overall length (LOA) of 366 meters and a width of 51 meters, the CMA CGM SCANDOLA holds the distinction of being the first LNG-powered container vessel to navigate West Africa, making its initial stop in Tema before gracing the Lekki Port.
The unique capabilities of the Lekki Deep Sea Port position it as the sole facility in Nigeria equipped to accommodate such large container vessels, emphasizing its role as a pivotal maritime hub.
Governor Sanwo-Olu expressed commendation for the achievements of Lekki Port, Lekki Freeport Terminal, and CMA CGM, highlighting their significant contributions to the Nigerian maritime industry. This milestone underscores the port’s success since its commissioning.
Lekki Port LFTZ Enterprise Limited (LPLEL), a joint venture involving Lekki Port Investment Holdings Inc (China Harbour Engineering Company Ltd. and Tolaram) holding 75%, the Lagos State Government with 20%, and the Federal Government of Nigeria represented by the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) with 5%, stands as a collaborative force in driving the port’s success.
