Victor Osimhen, the African Player of the Year, along with his Super Eagles teammates, Moses Simon and William Troost-Ekong, have successfully cleared the random anti-doping tests conducted by the Confederation of African Football (CAF).
This clears the trio to participate in their quarter-final clash against Angola on Friday, as reported by IgbereTV.
Following Nigeria’s last group match and their 2-0 Round of 16 victory over Cameroon, CAF selected Osimhen, Simon, and Troost-Ekong for the random drug tests.
Osimhen notably played a crucial role for the Super Eagles during the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations group stage and the Round of 16 clash against Cameroon. Reports indicate that the Nigerian striker underwent the anti-doping test after the match against Guinea-Bissau.
Similarly, FC Nantes forward Moses Simon and defender William Troost-Ekong were also subjected to the standard random tests. These procedures are typically carried out on players whose heightened energy levels may raise suspicions of substance use.
Sources have disclosed that two Cameroonian players underwent comparable tests, emphasizing that Osimhen is not the only player implicated in the tournament.
In the meantime, Coach Peseiro’s team is slated to encounter Angola in the quarterfinals of the 2023 AFCON tournament on Friday.
