The Abia State Police Command has officially confirmed the abduction of Prof. Godwin Emezue, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor of Abia State University Uturu.
The incident occurred on Friday when unidentified hoodlums seized him while he was purchasing fuel at a petrol station in Umuekwu Amachara, Umuahia South LGA, Abia State, around 7 pm.
According to ASP Maureen Chinaka, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of the command, the victim’s wife, who was with him during the incident, had her ATM card confiscated by the criminals.
The command assured the public that efforts, including intelligence and technical resources, are being deployed to unravel the crime and safely rescue the kidnapped deputy vice-chancellor.
In a statement, Chinaka emphasized the commitment of the police to ensuring the security of Abians, urging the public to remain calm and continue with their legitimate activities. She encouraged citizens to stay vigilant and security-conscious during this period.
