Members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) from the Plateau State House of Assembly, who were recently ousted by the Court of Appeal, have now gathered at the Assembly Complex, insisting on being granted entry to Tuesday’s session.
The Court of Appeal had removed the 16 members, citing the absence of a viable PDP structure in Plateau State to endorse candidates in the previous general elections.
Despite their dismissal, the lawmakers remained resolute in their determination to participate in Tuesday’s assembly session alongside their fellow legislators.
Led by Ishaku Maren, the sacked lawmakers are claiming that the Supreme Court judgment, which validated the election of Governor Caleb Mutfwang, had also qualified them to remain members of the Assembly.
The lawmakers said they would resume as lawmakers on Tuesday when the House is expected to reconvene from its two-month recess.
However, eight members of the House of Assembly sat and after the sitting, the Speaker addressed the sacked lawmakers, urging them to maintain the status quo until all legal measures are explored.
Meanwhile, security operatives had cordoned off the Assembly Complex as a security measure to forestall the break down of law and order.
