Gov. Makinde Reacts To Ibadan Explosion, Reveals Casualties

Governor of Oyo state, Seyi Makinde says two people were found dead in the Ibadan explosion which happened on Tuesday night at Dejo oyeleye Street , Bodija Area of the capital city of the state.

Makinde who spoke with journalists in Ibadan said the explosion which also injured 77 people was caused by illegal miners who stored explosive devices in one of the buildings in Bodija area of Ibadan.

Speaking with Journalists, the Governor said ” we visited the scene of the explosion which occured at about 7:44pm yesterday 16th January, 2024 in Bodija Ibadan.

“This unfortunate incident resulted in the death and injury to Residents in the vicinity and also affected properties.

” we have also deployed first responders and all relevant Agencies within Oyo State to carry out comprehensive search and rescue operations”.

He added that preliminary investigations by security Agencies revealed that illegal miners occupying one of the houses in Bodija had stored explosive devices which cause d the blast.

“Investigation are still ongoing and all those found culpable for this will be brought to book. The rescue operations will continue throughout the night” Makinde said.

” Earth moving equipment, Ambulances emergency lights and securities personnels were deployed to the scene of the incident ”

” The injured persons are been moved to public and private hospitals for treatment within Ibadan. Medical personnels are on standby at these hospitals to provide needed assistant to the injured people. we have visited UTH and see some of those injured during the incident”.

Condoling with the families of those who lost their lives and properties to the explosion, Governor Makinde said ” in total we have 77 injured victims so far most of whom were treated and discharged and two fatalities. May their Souls rest in peace and may God give their loved ones the fortitude to bear this irreparable loss”

Makinde assured Residents that the state Government will take care of the medical bills of all victims of the blast.
” we will also provide temporary accomodations for those whose houses were affected and ensure that they are supported to rebuild their lives . He added.

He further urged the residents to call 615 for any emergencies they may be experiencing at this time and to remain calm , stay away from the immediate scene.

Oyo state Governor expressed thanks to all the first Responders , security personnels and all those who are at the scene to assist with rescue operations as well as the medical personnels.
