Trabzonspor’s forward, Paul Onuachu, is set to replace the injured Umar Sadiq in Nigeria’s squad for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations following Sadiq’s knee injury during Nigeria’s friendly against Guinea on Monday, ruling him out of the competition.
While initially part of Nigeria’s provisional 40-man AFCON squad, Onuachu didn’t make the final cut. Now, the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) awaits approval from Onuachu’s Turkish club, Trabzonspor, before submitting his name to the Confederation of African Football (CAF).
Having missed the AFCON 2021 finals due to injury, the 29-year-old striker looks to make a impactful return.
Onuachu previously contributed to the Super Eagles’ third-place finish in the AFCON finals hosted by Egypt.
