The Role Of Religion In The Transformation Of The Nation

By Cedar Chris

The current challenges which NIgeria is faced with over the years considering worsening living conditions and poor Economy , growing poverty rate and other desastrous social and political incidents.

Many Notable Nigerians have attributed such to corruption and bad leadership . One could believe that Nigerians have not been blessed with good leaders as seen in other part of the world.

Nigeria has in recent times been reported to be the second must Religious country in the world with all its leaders at the national , state and local government level highly know members from either Christian or Islamic religion.

This has brought about the important seeking the role these two major Religions have played in the development of nation’.

Speaking with Rev. Meshach ikpa (PhD) on Sunday December 7th 2024 has this to say,

“The involvement and participation of the two religions you mentioned in the TRANSFORMATION of the Nation is a function of definition. If their understanding is in variance, so also their actions.

“But ideally, the function of religion is to be a bridge between God and Humanity aligning the affairs of human existence with God ‘,s expectations .

“Rev Meshach , noted that “Religion of any kinds are responsible for teaching and ministering positive morals to it’s followers or members .

He added by saying ” in it’s normal sense, churches and mosques are not commercial institutions as such they do not produce any commercial products. They are rather expected to produce good, trustworthy , intergrity , brave and sincere people with leadership qualities that that the nation deserves ”

When asked , if the Religion organisation should be blamed for the bad leaders NIgerians are having , He responded by saying ,

” I cannot deny the fact that the country’s leaders at all levels belong to one Religion or the other but more are of the church and the mosques.

“we have not seen any politician vieing for a political leadership who agrees to have visited Shango, idibia nor Ogun and even if they do it’s usually in secrets but we often seen them in churches and mosques. This means that the churches and mosques have influence in their wining of the election . one can assume that they are the products of such Religious body .

” therefore ,it’s expected of the church and mosques as the case may be to minister sound sincere leadership doctrines message into them without fear nor compromise of the needed timely message.

These Religious bodies missed it where such that oughte to be treated as members under their ministrations or teachings are seen as gods and worship instead even before election day .

The truth remains that , NIgerian leaders of the past and present are either Christians or Muslim at one time or the other. like presently what we have in the presidency is Muslim , Muslim leaders.

“What does God want from his creation and what does the creation want from God? Leaders should be made to fear God emulate God, s leadership system which must be emphasize to them my the Religious leaders . He added.

“Religion should be a guide, to lead for the purposes for which God has made. Either to God or Man.
Transformation is all about changes and improvements.
God does not change, but man.

“Man will always desire a situational change and expects God to change along side his detects.
There’s nothing that God has not seen, so he would never desire to a change”
