General Christopher Musa, the chief of Defence Staff gave an up fate on Christmas Eve massacre in plateau state which took over 200 lives in two of its LGAs
Tuesday January 2nd, Gen. Musa confirmed the the Nigerian military ‘s significant progress in arresting suspects responsible for the attack.
During the interview with channel TV,
the Defence chief assured the public that the efforts were underway to trac down all individuals involved in the heinous act . Stating that ” we are up on their heels and making some arrests.
He further unfolded that military is collaborating with state government to identify areas captured by terrorists across the country to reclaim them.
Expressing the military determination to ensure that bandits hold no community in the new Year. In his words ” we are working with the state government to identify these areas this year , God willing , we will make sure bandits hold no community “.
Musa emphasized the potential reduction of internally displaced camps once communities are recovered allowing residents to return to their homes .
He further addressed the concern of the military response time , Gen. Musa acknowledged the vastness of the affected areas and clearified .” we cannot be every where ”
He identify lack of political will at all levels of government as a significant hurdle in resolving the prevailing insecurity in the country . He streesed that political decisions were crucial to overcoming challenges.
He noted that the military effectiveness depends on strong support and directives from the political class ” the military can only do so much , it’s a political decision not military decision on what is to be done ” .
