Four healthcare workers have been incarcerated following the exposure of their physical and emotional abuse of an elderly patient, as reported by the BBC on Thursday.
Ame Tunkara and Morountaro Adefila were convicted of ill-treatment and willful neglect, receiving a four-month prison sentence on December 8.
Likewise, Danny Ohen and Bridget Aideyan faced the same charges and were sentenced to six months and four months, respectively, on November 14.
The police disclosed that the workers were captured on camera mishandling an 89-year-old woman afflicted with vascular dementia, rendering her unable to communicate verbally.
In February 2020, the family clandestinely installed a camera after observing bruises on the woman’s arm, recording incidents of abuse over a span of four days.
It showed the woman being handled roughly, hit with a pillow, and treated with a lack of dignity and respect.
The woman meanwhile sadly passed away in October with a police official saying “she should not have spent any of her remaining years suffering such ill-treatment.”
