Mayor Of Umuahia Issues New Executive Order On Trucks Offloads And Loading Within Umuahia North

The Mayor Umuahia North Local Government Area of Abia State, Hon. High Chief Victor Ikeji has issued Executive Order on Trucks Offloads and loading within Umuahia North in order to mitigate unwholesome activities, improving the overall traffic flow and safety within the metropolis.

A statement made available to IGBERE TV on Tuesday, signed by the Mayor stated that all wholesale/retail dealers and vendors of goods and services within the Umuahia North Metropolis, particularly those operating within the Umuahia Urban, are hereby prohibited from offloading/loading of goods and services from trucks within the urban area from the hours of 7:00am to 8:00pm.


The statement reads in full ;

WHEREAS it is essential by the authority vested in the office of the Mayor, Umuahia North Local Government Area, it is hereby ordered as follows:

1. The Umuahia North Metropolis has experienced significant congestion, disruptions and traffic-related issues due to the offloading/loading of goods by trucks within the urban areas resulting in breaches of public peace and order. This Executive Order aims to mitigate these unwholesome activities, improving the overall traffic flow and safety within the metropolis.

2. Consequently, all wholesale/retail dealers and vendors of goods and services within the Umuahia North Metropolis, particularly those operating within the Umuahia Urban, are hereby prohibited from offloading/loading of goods and services from trucks within the urban area from the hours of 7:00am to 8:00pm.

3. ⁠Offloading/loading of goods and services from trucks on public roads, streets, or any other public spaces within the metropolis at the stipulated hours is strictly prohibited.

4. Wholesale/retail dealers and vendors are encouraged to utilize designated offloading/loading bays 24hrs at Ubani Market and other designated parks for the purpose of offloading/loading of goods and services from their trucks.

5. The Local Government authority shall expressly approve any other specific locations for loading/offloading of goods and services where necessary.

5. The relevant law enforcement agencies and Taskforce are directed to enforce this Order effectively without prejudice.

6. ⁠Any wholesale/retail dealer or vendor of goods and services found to be in violation of this order shall be subject to penalties of no less amount of N200,000 (Two hundred thousand naira) and above, including appropriate legal action in accordance with extant laws and regulations.

7. ⁠This Executive Order shall take effect immediately upon issuance on this day 18th December, 2023.

8. ⁠The relevant authorities and stakeholders are directed to carry out adequate sensitization to ensure total compliance of those within the Umuahia North Metropolis.

9. ⁠All previous executive orders or directives that conflicts with the provisions of this order are hereby revoked.
