"I Received Death Threats Over Pregnancy Rumours" – Singer Tems

Nigerian singer Temilade Openiyi, widely known as Tems and a Grammy winner, has disclosed that she faced death threats amidst rumors about her pregnancy.

This speculation emerged when she attended Burberry’s Spring/Summer 2024 London Fashion Week show, adorned in a black dress with a purple fluffy coat and matching heels.

Observers speculated about her pregnancy based on how the dress clung to her body.

In a recent interview with The Beat 99.9 FM, Lagos, the Oscar-nominated artist shared that she received direct messages on social media questioning her alleged pregnancy and the involvement of American rapper Future.

Despite collaborating on the Grammy-winning song ‘Wait For U’ with Future and Drake, Tems clarified that she has never personally met Future.

She said: “When I heard [the rumours] that I was pregnant, I didn’t actually think anybody believed it. I didn’t know it was serious until I started getting messages like death threats, like, ‘How dare you? Of all the people in the world, Future, really?’ And I’ve never met him in my life. So it’s crazy.”

Tems also disclosed during the interview that she “would like to direct a video for Asake.”

She said: “I love him. I can tell that he is very artistic.”

She explained that her likeness for the YBNL star is “just for work, just to direct his [music] video.”
