A group of twenty-seven Rivers State House of Assembly members, led by Martin Amaewhule and aligned with FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, has officially switched allegiance from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Their decision to defect stems from perceived divisions within the PDP, and these lawmakers, responsible for initiating an impeachment process against Governor Sim Fubara, have now aligned themselves with the APC.
In addition to their political shift, the Rivers State legislators collectively passed a resolution condemning the withholding of funds earmarked for the management of the House of Assembly.
During their Monday session, the members of the Rivers State House of Assembly engaged in various legislative activities, with a notable highlight being the passage of the Local Government (Amendment) Bill 2023 during its Second Reading.
