The Lagos Safety Commission took decisive action by sealing 19 event centers due to safety infractions, emphasizing public safety.
Mr. Lanre Mojola, the Director General of the Safety Commission, disclosed this during an on-the-spot assessment of event centers in the state.
Mojola highlighted that the safety assessment is part of the Commission’s ongoing efforts to fulfill its mandate, aiming to prevent accidents, especially during the festive season.
Before this enforcement, the Commission had informed event owners through associations about the necessity to adhere to safety best practices and register events with 250 guests and above on their registration portal www.lasgsafetyreg.com to obtain an Event Safety Permit.
The Director General emphasized that the sealing of these event centers was a necessary step to enforce compliance with established safety protocols, ensuring safer events. Some of the affected event centers include White Stone Event Centre, Lekki Colliseum, Leisure Park, La Madison, Haddasah, The Summit, Villa Park, De Dove, Majesty, The Podium, Celebrations Gardens, and Tastee Event Centres.
Mojola reassured the public that routine inspections would persist to uphold safety standards across the events and hospitality sectors within the state. He encouraged the public to report observed safety infractions at events and public facilities to the Commission.
