A 34-year-old footballer, Sodiq Adebisi, tragically passed away on Saturday after collapsing during a training session at the Dipo Dina International Stadium in Ijebu-Ode, Ogun State.
The distressing incident occurred while he was training alongside other players.
Witnesses stated that Sodiq’s teammates promptly responded to his collapse, swiftly transporting him to a state hospital in Ijebu-Ode. Unfortunately, despite their efforts, he was pronounced dead upon arrival.
Confirming the incident, the State Police Public Relations Officer, Omolola Odutola, acknowledged the unfortunate event. The deceased’s brother, Ganiyu Adebisi, formally approached the Igbeba Police Division to request the release of the body for burial.
“The brother came to report the incident at our Igbeba division. The family said they didn’t want any investigation and that they wanted to bury the deceased according to Islamic rite,” Odutola stated.
