The Niger State Police Command announced that it is tracking down the mother of a newborn baby abandoned on a roadside in Minna.
According to igberetv, the baby boy was abandoned in the Tayi neighborhood of Minna a few hours after his birth.
When residents rescued the baby on Saturday, December 2, 2023, the baby was already infested with soldier ants.
Command spokesman Wasiu Abiodun DSP, who spoke with Punch on Monday, said an investigation is underway to identify the woman who abandoned the baby.
According to the PPRO, after the rescue, the State Child Rights Office took the baby to a medical facility.
On December 3, 2023, at approximately 10:30 a.m., Mai Angwan, a resident of Tayi village in Minna, reported that a baby had been abandoned at Tayi village in GRA Div.
He wrote, “However, the State Child Rights Department took the baby into custody and transported it to a medical facility for treatment.”
Abiodun clarified that no arrest has been made, but that the investigation is ongoing.
‘The investigation is ongoing. If someone had been arrested, I would have mentioned that in my message. If someone had been arrested, I would have mentioned it in my message. But the case is still under investigation to figure out who dumped the baby there,” he added
