A bomb explosion at a Catholic mass in the Philippines has killed three people and injured nine others.
According to the BBC, the incident occurred Sunday morning, December 3, at the gymnasium of Mindanao State University (MSU) in Marawi.
In 2017, the city was the scene of five months of fighting between government forces and militants linked to the Islamic State.
The university said it was “deeply saddened and appalled” by the “senseless and horrific” violence.
Violence has no place in a civilized society and is especially abhorrent at an institution of higher learning such as MSU.
We stand in solidarity with the Christian community and all those affected by this tragedy.”
The university added that additional security staff will be deployed to the campus and all academic activities will be suspended until further notice.
