Two communities in Goronyo and Urno Local Government Areas of Sokoto State were attacked by bandits, killing at least seven people.
The incidents occurred between Friday and Saturday, December 2, 2023, in Koziyo community in Goronyo LGA and Gwamatase village in Uruno LGA.
State Police Command spokesman, ASP Ahmed Rufai, confirmed that at least three people were killed and one injured in the attack in Wurno.
However, he could not confirm the attack that occurred in Koziwo ward of Goronyo Local Government Area, where five people were killed and a number abducted by an unidentified armed group believed to be bandits.
A resident of the district, who spoke to the Nigerian Tribune on condition of anonymity, said the incident occurred on Saturday evening.
He said that apart from the killing of the five residents, many others were abducted in the unfortunate attack.
‘They stormed the village on Saturday evening and killed the five residents instantly. They also abducted a number of people from the village, but as of now we have not confirmed the number of those abducted.
The victims were laid to rest Sunday morning.
