"Ghana Must Go" bag ban in airport are untrue, according to FAAN.

The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has denied banning the use of “Ghana Must Go” bags by travelers at airports in the country. The FAAN issued a notice today, December 1, titled Re: Prohibition Of Usage Of Ghana Must Go” and signed by Henoch Gizachew the Director of Airport Services, dated November 24.

The report further stated that the ban specifically targets passengers using the country’s international airports. The report quoted Gizachew as saying that the bags were banned by FAAN because they caused huge losses to airlines and damaged the airport’s conveyor belt system.

FAAN stated the following on the X-handle.

“Please note that @flyethiopian, FAAN, notified the public that they do not ban Ghana Must go bag. Thanks.”

Ethiopian Airlines, which made the decision, explained the reason for its action and the exception to the new rule in a memo to FAAN and a public notice posted on social media.

The airline stated.

‘We are writing to inform you of the restrictions regarding the use of irregularly shaped baggage on Ethiopian Airlines flights. It is strictly prohibited to carry ‘Ghana Must Go Bags’ unless properly packed in a carton or hardcover rectangular container. This restriction was implemented due to the frequent breakage of conveyor belts at various airports, at great expense to the airlines involved. In order to ensure the smooth operation of flights and to minimize disruptions caused by broken conveyor belts, we ask for your cooperation in complying with this regulation.
